Take a Little Wine

Getting drunk has never seemed a good idea to me. By drunk I mean drinking to the point you lose control, leaving yourself unable to take care of yourself and by the morning unable to remember what went down. This may be because I have elements of the fiercely independent, but then it seems to me that if you have to forget everything including the ‘fun’ to have fun you have some serious issues.

Then again, contrary to the opinion of children and certain teetotallers I know, one can consume alcohol without becoming drunk. At times it can be a real blessing. For me, a drink makes me relax enough to talk more, less afraid to be heard or just that bit louder and in this way I have enjoyed many great conversations.

Some of my happiest moments in London involved me sitting in the front row of the top deck of a big red bus on the way home from the pub, my water bottle on hand. The smile on my face, a faint image of the singing in my heart as I thanked God for the calm and joy in my chest due to the alcohol, taken of course in moderation.
